Ethio telecom undertaking broadband network expansion

Ethio telecom said that it has been carrying out broadband internet network expansion and upgrading to deliver quality services.

Responding to the media while presenting Ethio telecom’s six months performance report, Frehiwot Tamiru, Company CEO said that the company is introducing new technology to replace the IP core network which served for over ten years.

The expansion and upgrading would help meet the demands of customers who require high bandwidth.

Now, replacement of the IP core and other activates are at the final stage of completion. “We have started the broadband internet network expansion and upgrading in Addis Ababa. The activity to reach out to all states is well underway.”

According to the CEO, the demand for internet date is increasing rapidly. Smartphone users account for 33 percent of the 45 million customers. The company would be able to increase its revenue if it improves Smartphone internet access.

Moreover, enabling customers to access smartphone at an affordable price and expanding telecom services to the lower-income sections of society is a base for electronic marketing (E-marketing), she stated.

Currently, telecom data is accessible in Addis Ababa and State’s capitals. But, we should not close the door for other communities as the expansion of smartphone helps for multi-purpose advantages.

“In last six months we were designing alternatives to increase access to smartphone. We have finished strategies and recently signed an agreement with partners,” she said. “So, the implementation period would not be that long until we make smartphone easily accessible.”

Recently, the company is providing non-interrupted telecom services institutions such as Ethiopian Airlines and others using communication satellite, the CEO noted.
